Delegates Break It Down With Lil Jon in a Musical Roll-Call Vote for Harris

The rapper, hailing from Georgia, briefly took the spotlight in Chicago with an unexpected performance during a spirited yet symbolic vote. Vice President Kamala Harris is already confirmed as the party’s nominee.

On Tuesday night at the Democratic convention, rapper Lil Jon electrified the floor with a burst of energy, performing a few lines from his iconic track “Turn Down for What,” which sent delegates into a frenzy.

He then shifted gears, belting out “V.P. Harris … Governor Walz” to the melody of “To the window … to the wall!” from his hit “Get Low.”

Lil Jon's unexpected appearance was part of a broader effort by the Democrats to infuse the traditionally formal roll-call vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz with a lively party atmosphere. With D.J. Cassidy hosting, delegates were encouraged to “pass the mic around the nation” as each state cast a symbolic vote for Harris, often featuring a memorable tune or a surprise celebrity guest.

Although Harris was already the party’s nominee, having been selected through a virtual vote two weeks prior, delegates on the floor were keen to keep the celebratory spirit alive.
